Wedding photographers in Cumbria, The Lake District – Derwent Photography

Janine and David managed to dodge the lake district weather for their shoot the dress session near thirlmere. Although originally conceived as a service for our own brides, we have found that we are shooting a lot of brides or couples whose wedding we hadn’t photographed in the first place.

Johanna & Richard were given the option to postpone their shoot the dress session on Monday, because although the day dawned dry, the wind was biting cold and very strong. But Johanna was feeling brave, and with the words “lets go for it” comitted herself to another freezing photo shoot Her wedding last December at Dalston Hall had been a very cold and snowy day, so maybe she was just getting used to it? Rachel so enjoyed her wedding shoot, she wanted another one, but this time wanted to get wet

Brave girl, that water was pretty cold!!

Anna was married in Thailand and came to us  for a shoot the dress session, which I decided to do at the beach  late one evening to try and tie it in a bit with the thai beach wedding she  had. It was a lot colder down by whitehaven though Here is a couple of my fav shots…

After 3 postponements due to crap weather, Kelly finally had her reward in the shape of a blazing hot day of sunshine last week for her Shoot The Dress session. Her husband Matt had his work cut out helping her as it was a lot of dress, especially once it went in the lake and got wet. It weighed a ton!

I had the pleasure of shooting Jenny Gibson, our cumbria newspaper groups competition winner, for her shoot the dress session.

Jenny had a double wedding in workington with her brother a few months ago and as they hadn’t had a professional photographer, winning the competition was an added bonus.

Shoot the dress is our version of the American “Trash The Dress” craze, where brides go for wild photoshoots some time after the wedding.

Our version is more focused on getting great shots, rather than just trashing the poor dress per se, and most of our clients have no intention of getting their precious dress trashed. Wet and muddy, fine, they can be drycleaned later, but not totally trashed. (there are always exceptions tho )

Its a great service as it also allows brides to get some stunning fashion or landscape images in our signature style, even if we never shot the original wedding. And if we did, it lets us push the boundaries that much further

Its also a possible fall back for brides who were dissapointed with their weddng images, although the day cannot be replaced, at least it is now possible to get a set of unique and different images after the fact.

Faye wanted a water and a mountain theme, with a little bit of urban thrown in, so a 3 hour session was enough to capture a load of great shots in all 3 environments.

Not for the faint hearted, a 2 hour session is complimentary with all our wedding bookings, although you can have a pre wedding shoot or a “for your eyes only” shoot instead
